Yoga therapy

Our therapists have over 20 years of experience in the practice of authentic, traditional Yoga postures. This therapy includes Hatha methods, breathing exercises and simple forms of meditation. Hatha exercises have two components. The first is physical, and consists of sitting and holding the body in certain energizing and harmonizing body postures. The second component is the subtle-energetic. The form of that posture is an antenna for a certain type of beneficial energy. Both components are maintained for a period of time,

How it works

At the beginning of the meeting, the client will share with the therapist the issues they wish to harmonize. These may be physical, emotional or mental. Together they will establish the purpose of the session, and the therapist will structure a list of Yoga techniques suitable to fulfill this purpose.

After this initial stage, they will practically go through the list together, with the therapist showing the correct method and explaining the effects.

By practicing the prescribed techniques, you will already feel much better after this first session. The minimum duration of a session is 30 minutes. But to stabilize and deepen these beneficial effects, you should also practice at home.

What comes next

This form of therapy is the most practical and gives the client the greatest degree of independence. Basically, you can come to one session and receive all the necessary keys. You can then apply them yourself in the privacy and comfort of your own home.

However, you may notice that:

  • it’s harder to mobilize at home;
  • discover new things you want to improve;
  • you simply want to find out more.

In these cases, you are always welcome to come back to EliSara for a new session.

So you’ll be able to:

  • relax;
  • energize;
  • harmonize;
  • enrich your inner self by practicing traditional Hatha techniques.

What is Yoga and when did it start

The yoga system is one of the oldest and most complex philosophical and spiritual systems in the world. It evolved in India over 5000 years ago. Yoga means ‘union’ or ‘fusion’ and refers to a multi-level practice of self-improvement:

  • the body;
  • that of the mind;
  • and that of the soul.

All these work together to eventually reach enlightenment and then spiritual liberation.

Yogic traditions

In the yoga tradition, there are five main paths of spiritual evolution, known as karma, bhakti, jnana, raja and tantra. These five paths have evolved in parallel and are still commonly practiced today by yogic practitioners around the world.

History

The history of the yogic tradition begins with the writings called the Vedas, which are the oldest sacred texts of Hinduism, They describe many spiritual and philosophical practices in great detail. The Vedas mean ‘knowledge’ and are considered to be a divine gift given to people through the rishis. These are the great saints and sages who lived in ancient India. These rishis developed and passed on yogic knowledge and practices through oral tradition, which was then written down in later sacred texts.

Sacred texts

The first important text on yoga was the Yoga Sutras. It was written by the great philosopher and yogi scholar Patanjali in the second century BC.

The Yoga Sutras is considered to be one of the most important texts on the subject and describes the eight stages of the practice, known as astanga.

The eight stages

These eight stages include:

  • yama (external moral norms),
  • niyama (latitudinal moral norm),
  • asana (body yoga potpourri),
  • pranayama (breath control),
  • pratyahara (withdrawal of the senses from external reality),
  • dharana (concentration of attention),
  • dhyana (meditation) and
  • samadhi (state of oneness with Godhead).

Grand masters

In the centuries that followed, there were many great masters of the yoga system who contributed to the development and transmission of the tradition. Among them:

  • Swami Vivekananda, one of the best-known spiritual guides of the 19th century, who introduced yoga and Eastern philosophy to the West,
  • Sri Tirumalai Krishnamacharya, a master who developed the modern style of vinyasa and trained many important personalities
  • Swami Sivananda, founder of the Divine Life Society, who popularized yogic practices and meditation in India and around the world.

Today, yoga is practiced by millions of people around the world, in both the East and the West.

Why Yoga is deeply beneficial

Physical health

Hatha is a form of yoga that involves certain physical exercises, breathing techniques and meditation. Regular practice of hatha yoga techniques can bring many health benefits. This includes physical, mental and spiritual health. We will explore these benefits.

Beneficial physical effects

For starters, practicing hatha yogic processes can improve flexibility and muscle strength. During the specific exercises, the body is placed in various beneficial positions, which require a wide range of muscle movements and stretches. This leads to increased flexibility and joint mobility. It reduces the risk of injury and improves our posture. These exercises also improve blood and lymph circulation, thus eliminating stagnation (stagnation) of body fluids.

Beneficial psychological effects

Practicing hatha yoga helps reduce stress and anxiety. The breathing and meditation techniques used in hatha yoga help to calm the heart and relax the nervous system. These techniques can be particularly helpful in managing stress and anxiety. This is mainly achieved by reducing the level of cortisol (the stress hormone) in the body.

Improved mood

In addition, hatha yoga greatly improves mood and helps reduce symptoms of depression. Practicing yoga stimulates the release of endorphins and serotonins, two neurotransmitters that have a calming and relaxing effect on the body. These natural chemicals improve mood and help reduce symptoms of depression.

Increased mental and mental performance

In addition to the physical and mental benefits, practicing hatha techniques also helps increase concentration and mental clarity. The meditation and breathing techniques used help reduce mental ‘noise’ and increase concentration. They can be particularly helpful for people who have problems with concentration or mental slowing down.

Heart health

In addition, hatha yoga can also be beneficial for heart health. Practicing hatha yoga helps reduce blood pressure and improve blood circulation. These benefits help prevent heart disease and reduce the risk of stroke.

Multiple benefits

Practicing hatha yoga techniques brings many benefits to the human being. It is important to note that these benefits can only be obtained through regular practice of hatha yoga techniques. Also, the effects are not immediate. It would be ideal to devote time and effort to achieve these benefits.

Equally, hatha yoga can be practiced by people of all ages and levels of physical performance. It can be adapted to suit individual needs. Hatha yoga can be practised in the comfort of your own home or in a specialized class.

Emotional balance

Hatha techniques also benefit emotional balance and the ability to cope with stressful situations. By practicing asanas, controlled breathing and meditation, we can develop a calmer and more peaceful attitude towards difficult situations in our lives. We can also develop greater resilience to stress. In addition, we will acquire an ability to focus better on everyday tasks and problems.

Improving sleep quality and rest through Hatha yoga

Hatha yoga can, for example, be a great way to improve sleep quality. A study was conducted in 2017 for eight weeks. It showed that practicing hatha yoga exercises led to improved sleep quality in adults with chronic insomnia. By practicing relaxation poses, meditation and breathing before bedtime, we can improve the quality and duration of our sleep.

Better digestion

Hatha yoga also benefits digestion and immune system function. By practicing poses that stretch and stimulate the muscles and internal organs, we can improve the flow of blood and oxygen to these areas. This can help improve digestion and immune system function.

Help for asthma and diabetes

In addition, practicing hatha yoga also benefits people suffering from chronic conditions such as asthma and diabetes. By practicing poses that involve deep, controlled breathing, we can improve the capacity of the lungs and respiratory system. This is beneficial for people with asthma. You can also practice postures that stimulate the pancreas and endocrine system. In this way we can help regulate blood sugar levels and improve the function of the endocrine system which can be beneficial for people with diabetes.
